History of Car Making - From Novelty to Norm

With the development of steam powered engines, human for the first time experienced fast paced automated travel through building ships and trains. However the majority of the society still rely on horse driven coach as a personal transport even until the mid 1920s, the first generation of cars are not well-received as they tend to generate a lot of noise, breakdown too often, very expensive to acquire and maintain, the British government even went as far as enacting a legislation requiring a person travelling by foot, walking at the front of the car, bearing a red flag and a horn to annouce the car presence, such measures make car travel impractical and hence delayed the development of cars.

With the advancement of technologies in succeeding decades, cars are slowly becoming cheaper, more reliable and comfortable. Infrastructure such as road networks and fuel stations are becoming more common, thus by the end of 1950s, cars have become a household item. Cars from different times exhibit unique design styles and defining technological advancement that enables enthusiastic car collectors to classify cars according to different eras.
