Ford Model T
If you were to name the most influential car of the last century, it is without doubt the Ford Model T.
The year 1908 marks the point where automobile transformed from a rich man's novelty to mass market popularity. It is the year where the first Ford Model T was first produced. Ford Model T was often regarded as the first affordable car for the common middle class American, the first car to be produced using mass production instead of individual hand crafting. It is a runaway commercial success, by the end of its production, in 1927, more than 10 percent of all cars in the entire planet were Fords. The car is so affordable that an assembly line worker then could take home a Model T with only four months'pay, the standard seat open tourer only cost $850 then when competing models are running in the price range of $2000 to $3000. In total more than 15 million Ford Model T was produced.
Despite the reputation of an economical car, the car is well regarded for being robust, reliable and easy to service. The introduction of Vanadium steel as one of the main material give the car such durability that many Model T and their parts are still functional today even after nearly a century. The Model T four cylinder sidevalve engine was first in the world with a detachable head, making service like valve jobs easier.
The Model T is one of the most collectable vintage cars today, there are three main clubs worldwide dedicated to the service and restoration of Ford Model T: The Model T Ford Club International, the Model T Ford Club of America and the combined clubs of Australia. In addition to that, many steel Model T parts are still in production today, there are also fiberglass body replicas as well.
